UFC 89 – Day 3

Today was weigh-in day. We (me, John and El Presidente) made our way to the venue only to be taken down into an underground carpark. A few shady corridors lately and we were in the Fight Club Q&A session. John said it well, describing the audience as a strange mix of Dungeons and Dragons nerds and meatheads.

Dana busted out one of his funniest quotes ever when asked by a fan if he would piss on Tito Ortiz if he was on fire. Dana laughed and said, “Fuck no! If Tito was on fire I’d roast marshmallows on him!”

Between the Q&A and the weigh-ins there was plenty of time to pow-wow with people. I got to meet up with guys I only see a few times a year – guys like Big Dan Miragliotta, Kevin Lynch (photographer of the Octagon book), UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, Stitch, Marc Ratner and more.

A bunch of us went backstage and had our own 30 minute Q&A with Dana, where he let slip that yes, Bisping would be a coach on TUF 9 “win lose or draw” and they were looking for him to face the winner of Henderson vs Franklin (who will fight each other in January).

The weigh-ins were pretty routine – everyone made weight just fine. Bisping seemed pretty fired up and Dan Hardy and Akihiro Gono had a good laugh poking fun at each other’s hair (Gono was wearing a big blonde wig).

We’re working in the hotel room right now, but will hopefully get to go out tonight to catch up with some friends – everyone’s really excited about tomorrow, so until then!
