Summer sun and training outdoors

The above picture was taken 20 metres from my house.  Sweet.

I’ve not been in the gym much recently, and it’s actually been something of bit of a blessing in disguise, because I’ve been ‘playing’ outside in beautiful surroundings like the above.

The last four weeks I’ve been into the gym less times than I can count on one hand.  I usually go into the gym probably around four to five times a week, no less than three.  I was getting bored, and a few situations arose that has kept me from getting on the mat.

So rather than sit at my desk or on my sofa moping and getting fat, I’ve been training outside in the park, and it’s been great.  I’m lucky enough to have a large park ten steps outside my front door and another the same distance out the back.

Me and a few mates have been taking the kettlebells into the park and making the most of the weather while we’ve got it.  It’s been refreshing actually, as even though I love rolling, I’ve wanted to make an effort to improve my fitness for some time.  The last few months have been spent mostly training BJJ, with some fitness work chucked in to keep me ticking over.  I’ve put on a bit of mass (both muscle and fat) but feel really strong.

Now all I want to do is get shredded for the summer ;)

PS. Training with cherry blossoms swirling around makes you feel like a ninja.  Take that Matt, Patrick and all your other Japano-bloggers!

I thought I recognised those petals!
Looks like a beautiful place to work up a sweat, I must admit I am jealous. I’m going to try to stick to a regular schedule of running and using the chinup bars in the park near me, too.

take your dumbbells if you can, it aids loads in your workout if you’ve got some weight to shift around

Nice! Plus it looks like you won’t run into kids demanding you play ball with them ;) good times.

Nice entry Hywel, make the most of the weather while you can. You can’t beat the strange looks you get from folks walking their dogs either!!
