Who needs food?
Who needs food? Huh? That shit is old, man. No one eats any more. Get with it, dude.
We’re not quite there yet but we’re almost living in yesterday’s future, where no-one eats meals. Instead they simply ingest all their nutrients via delicious food tablets. Just don’t ask what’s in them.

OK so the two pics in this post are a little excessive but to be honest the supplements shown serve both me and my flatmate (we both train, he’s competing this weekend in the nation’s biggest BJJ comp, so good luck to him). Also there was a deal on recently that allowed me to pick up two for the price of three so I stocked up a bit, hence the numerous blue and white CNP tubs at the back there.
On an average day I take:
- A multivitamin
- 1000mg Vit C
- Flaxseed oil
- Zinc and copper
- Glucosamine, Chondroitin and MSM
- A post-training recovery shake (CNP’s excellent Pro-Recover) with a scoop of glutamine
- GABA before bed
Too much? Not enough? I don’t know. It works OK for me. My diet is mostly decent but occasionally I struggle to eat as clean as I’d like. A lot of the time I like to indulge (dark chocolate, mmm) and I don’t follow a specific diet or system when it comes to choosing my meals. I eat what I like, and as I don’t like junk or processed foods, that means I do OK.
I’ve been thinking a lot recently, mostly inspired by Christina (who is a fellow BJJ’er). She posted recently about a book which has altered her approach to dieting. It got me thinking, mostly about the bad habits I have allowed myself to slip into over the last few months. My weight has crept up (mostly by design) to around 78/79kgs. I’m by no means overweight. In fact, I’m in pretty good shape, if not quite fighting fit. My bodyfat is higher than I would like it to be and I’ve been thinking about ways of trimming down a little without losing too much mass, especially with the summer around the corner (heh heh).
I know I’ve got bad habits that I need to deal with (too much chocolate, biscuits, bread and alcohol) but you know what? I LIKE those things.
So I’ve decided. I’m going to live off supplements and my vices for the next week as an experiment. If I survive, I’ll post how it went. if not, call the local authorities, they may need to come remove my bloated corpse from my apartment.

Have you seen Eddie Bravo’s latest DVD? He lives on supplements, literally, during the week, and eats pizzas and stuff at the weekend. If I remember correctly. The man has a ton of stuff that he takes.

Hmm interesting, I haven’t seen it. I know Joe Rogan take a stupid amount of supplements (apart from the obvious) and seeing as those two are practically joined at the hip that would make sense

Hywel that is such a bad idea! You’re going to be living off of pills, chocolate and beer for a week? I’m glad I don’t share a bathroom with you!
